Managing Director and Sales
With my long experience in sales and an interest in people and communications, my ambition as a managing director is to take Balthasar to the next level. Since moving to the UK I have had to exchange Austrian ski slopes for English golf courses, and I must say my enthusiasm for golf is growing by the day.
Peter Baldus comes from the Westerwald region of Germany. After living in the UK for a year to learn the language in depth, he decided to settle here permanently in 1972. 20 years of extensive business experience in the engineering and manufacturing sector proved invaluable when setting up a business of his own. Initially in the import export sector, Peter found himself increasingly translating for customers and by 1989, this became the main focus of his endeavours. As a result, Balthasar Ltd., the language service provider specialising in technical translations, was founded in October 2000. Now retired, Peter is still joint owner and Chairman of the Board and takes an active interest in shaping the company and influencing its ethics and high standards.
Julie Baldus grew up in the West Country, she has a degree in English Literature and spent 10 years in the Education sector as a senior secondary school teacher. She is co-owner and a director of Balthasar Ltd and has worked for the company since January 2001 – initially in all aspects of the business, but principally as an editor and copywriter.
Formally retired since 2019, Julie is still actively involved in the business, supporting the team and engaged in planning its future so that the company remains state of the art and dedicated to customer service above all else.
I am the web developer and IT expert at Balthasar. As such I am continually looking at ways to improve our internal project management system, called QuickTrace, and our online customer services. The aim is always to enable us to work smarter, not harder.
A lifelong linguist with a particular interest in German language and culture, I’ve been translating for Balthasar since 2008 and know more than I ever thought possible about HVAC and renewables terminology! In 2016 my family and I relocated to Germany, so the country I call my second home has now become my first.

With a degree in European Languages, I have worked first as a project administrator and then manager for the company since 2009. Now my key focus is quality assurance and maintenance of our CAT tools. I love working with languages and developing new ideas to improve our service and am very pleased that this is now my role.
Senior Project Manager
In 2012 I left my home on the shores of the Baltic Sea to set off on an adventure to the Cotswold Hills. What was originally planned as a six-month internship abroad led to a career in the tourism industry, where I developed a keen interest in Quality Assurance and Project Management. After successfully completing a PRINCE2 qualification in spring 2017, my passion for foreign languages led me to my current position as Senior Project Manager at Balthasar, where I play an active role in optimising our processes, as well as continually delivering outstanding service to our customers alongside a highly committed and dynamic team.

In early 2017, having completed a degree in German Philology & Linguistics in South Africa, I left my native Namibia to work in Germany. While there I gained valuable experience within the language service sector. In 2019, I made a new home in the beautiful, rural county of Herefordshire in the UK. As a Project Manager at Balthasar, I have become part of a dynamic, multilingual team where I am able to take on new challenges and experience growth on a daily basis. Working closely with talented linguists and committed colleagues, I constantly strive to generate added value for our customers.
I really enjoy problem solving and learning new IT skills, so working at Balthasar is ideal for me. My colleagues keep coming up with “challenges” for me to resolve alongside my normal office tasks, so my workload is kept varied and interesting. I love the outdoors and have a keen interest in history.
Project Administrator / Final Checker
My career path has taken me from the classroom teaching Psychology and History, leading educational visits to the battlefields of Belgium and Normandy, to the translation industry. My many years of experience as a teacher have not only given me my organisational skills, but also – as my colleagues so lovingly put it – my “eagle eyes”. I need them every day for quality checks on our translations, as well as for the final check of all possible types of documents.
I really enjoy being part of a team that sets great store by high standards and quality of service and I hope that my skills will continue to add value to the team for a long time to come.
